Where is Kabwe Located?

Kabwe, formerly Broken Hill, city, central Zambia, capital of Central Province. Zinc and lead ores are produced in the vicinity of the city from a mine that, in addition to the ores, has yielded large quantities of fossil bones and primitive implements of Khoikhoi and San type.

In 1921 an incomplete skeleton of a type of early human, the Rhodesian man, was discovered here. Rhodesian man is believed by anthropologists to have been contemporary with, or earlier than, Neanderthal man in Europe. Population (1988 estimate) 200,300.
